Five dazzling tracks by one of the foremost masters of laptop and electronica, Danish born Jakob Riis. He performs in four duos with Sehnaoui, Lindsjö, Gustafsson and Svensson plus one solo.
I am convinced that we live in a golden age of music. It is defining time and space by redefining the very means of making music. Riis is one of its masters. His computor allows him to use the actual room as a piece of sound art; paradoxically I come to think of his mastership as a kind of found sounds, found art, transformed into art of sounds. By inviting other musicians doing the same explorations the musical space widens: Shanouis breathtaking alto, Lindsjös harsh guitar, Gustafssons masterly blown baritone and Svenssons rough sound of the electric guitar.

Both Sehnaoui and Mayas play acoustic music that is diametral, a space they conquerred by changing the traditonal ways of their instruments, which is nothing less than modern alchemy. Together they express a strong physical experience. Mayas is a master of sparse fragments of motion and Sehnaoui works in a flux of changing sounds. The multiple layers of their performance create a shivering moment of existence. Recorded in April 2009 in Berlin, Pappellallee by Tony Buck.

This is a recording from the opening of Per Svensson´s big exhibition in Ystad Art Museum gathering his friends and as well some of the most interesting and forceful improvisers in Sweden, performing a strong crescendo of noise and sounds growing into a hard beat and the hardcore nucleus of rock and noise. The voices and readings of Thomas Millroth and Ýrr jónasdóttir add a special quality to this magnificent and rare recording from 2008.

The only existing recording by this legendary 1979 trio.
Alexander von Schlippenbach and Sven-Åke Johansson was a working duo, when Peter Brötzmann joined them for a trio tour in Sweden in the fall of 1979.
They were all three part of the strong growth of the free improvised music and free jazz in Europe. In 1979, though, the era of revolutions was already history. They had all played in groups that made any retreat impossible; not to mention their solo works.
The music of the trio 1979 could really not have much to do with the past, they were all too busy exploiting the present. This makes the music very special. It is strong, energetic, melodic and experimenting, Johansson playing both accordeon and drums. The music on this CD must be counted among the most important expressions of all three musicians.
The cover is also special, designed by Sven-Åke Johansson, using a couple of his unique photos from the Berlin Wall 1976. The ruin of Haus Vaterland was specially printed as a small poster for this CD-edition.
The album consists of one long improvisation in five different parts. Total time is 57:15.

Norwegian Lene Grenager is a cellist and composer, internationally known from the ensembles SPUNK and Lemur.
Swedish singer and composer Sofia Jernberg is mainly a soloist, but she also works with different groups like The New Song, Paavo and Yun Kan 10. The Swedish Academy of Music awarded her as the best jazz musician last year.
The duo builds a world of sounds, moving between raw expression and contemplative minimalism. The cello is treates as unconventionally as the voice tastes the different qualities of words and other sounds.
This is a duo making ever new discoveries in the space of sounds.
The album Crochet consists of 9 different pieces, every one of them having its own special character.

SO 36 was a place for music in Berlin-Kreuzberg, started by the artist Martin Kippenberger. (SO 36 was the postal code to the area.) The club was visited by many strong bands like Red Krayola, Scritti Politi from New York, Kleenex from Zürich; and indeed Sven Åke Johansson´s NMUI, a band with very strong voices from the early free jazz and impro in Europe, some of them are by now legends. The music produced by the band very much mirrors the original genius of Sven Åke Johansson; melodies and hits are mixed with free improvisations, and his declamations. The music is forceful, gay and very humoristic. You will hear strong and original solos by all the musicians. Parts of this concert was first published as a 7" single in 1987 (FMP S 17), but the concert is now published in its full length. By the way, Thurston Moore has said that the NMUI-single belongs to one of his very favourite records!

1000 copies were part of the book "Look at the music - See Sound" produced by Ystad Art Museum for the festival with the same name during the second and last Kulturbro, 2002. 150 copies were produced with handmade cover by artist Vera Ohlsson during the fall 2004. Artistic producer Ann Blom.
This compilation was made for a book about improvised music and other things connected with the participants in the Look at the music festival 2002. The CD consists only of tracks that were not published elsewhere. Thus we have a genuine masterpiece by the 1984 Brötzmann-trio, a hard driving number by AALY trio including two renowned rock guitar players from the group Bob Hund, a dazzling study in electronic sounds by Berlin trumpet player Axel Dörner, and a burning, tight alternative mix of one tune by the three gentlemen of Diskaholics Anonymous.

These six solos were partly inspired by Håkan Blomkvists paintings. They exploit different sound of the instruments on a very low dynamic but still energetic level. Intensity does not have to do with strength. Gustafsson uses different parameters in his dialogues with his instruments, thus he very much works like the painter Blomkvist, waiting for the answer of the material, the colors, the paper, the canvas. The records were made during the Look At The Music festival in the Ystad Art Museum, part of the second and last Kulturbro festival, 2002.

To write that this trio is legendary and of great importance for the shape of the improvised music to come is really an understatement. Few groups had such great impact. This trio produced for BRÖ (later on FMP) "For Adolph Sax" and was a part of the octet in "Machine Gun". "Usable past" has the same power and skill, and the record must be considered an important part of the early free jazz and improvised music. Not all new editions of old groups add something to what we already know, this edition does. Of great importance was also the artwork of Peter Brötzmann; thus we asked him also to create this cover. Sven Åke Johansson from the trio has on his own had a career not only as a musician and performer but as an artist and creator of different objects and books. Sven Åke made ten exclusive original drawings on covers for the record, which form a very special limited edition.

David Stackenäs was, when this record was made, indeed a coming guitar player, who presented a very personal sound and attitude to improvised music. You could trace the free impro tradition with its many important string dazzlers, but you could also feel an open mind towards other kinds of music like rock.
